Stainless steel rods
Stainless steel rods
A stainless steel rod is included with almost all birdhouses. Except for the feeding stations, which can also be used with a wooden stick or which are suitable for mounting on a wall, the stainless steel stick is available separately.
The diameter of the rods is 20 mm.
Please note with our birdhouses with sticks: If the feeder is placed in the ground, the total height is reduced by approx. 15-20 cm, and correspondingly more on soft floors. For a greater height, we offer you optional, 50 cm long rod extensions.
Stainless steel rod assembly
The rods are divided for better shipping and must be screwed together briefly and firmly once. They are not designed to be screwed apart and screwed together multiple times. To avoid water entering the rod from above and damaging the thread, use the included washers and screw the birdhouse firmly onto the rod using the Allen screw.
Feet
When used with a stand, the distance from the birdhouse to the ground increases to approx. 1.58 m (due to the sleeve of the stand and its height)
If you would like a lower bar height, you can let us know in the message field at the end of the ordering process. Or you can simply call us and get one or two questions answered straight away: 036652 20010

Corten steel
Over time, Corten steel develops a characteristic, lively-looking, rusty surface, which acts as a protective layer to prevent further rusting through the material.
We offer you birdhouses made of Corten steel in a pre-rusted version or, more cost-effectively, in a raw version.
As the name suggests, the pre-rusted parts are pre-rusted. However, the rusting process is not yet complete here either. There may still be bare spots.
The rusting process can be accelerated in both versions by spraying with water more often. Otherwise the process occurs through the repeated drying of rain and condensation water.
Another method is to spray a salt solution onto the surface using a discarded spray bottle (glass cleaner bottle or similar). You can enhance this process by adding a little vinegar. Please be sure to stop feeding and then rinse the Corten steel part thoroughly with water.
Expensive accelerator products can be purchased online. We have tried many. But the effect is modest, not better.
Natural slate roofs
Slate is a natural product with a folded, parallel sedimentary structure. This structure enables good splitting, which means that relatively thin panels can be produced (see also splitting slate). The external shape of the roof and wall slate is obtained by cutting it to size.
The surface, thickness and edges therefore always have irregularities. This means that every slate is always different
These slate panels are attached to facades and roofs using slate nails on wooden substructures. To do this, the slate plates are perforated (not drilled). The upper side of the hole is relatively even, the lower side is always slightly broken due to the different structure of the slate.
Placing the slate on the VH-6
With our VH-6 birdhouses, the slate is placed so that the side with the even hole edges is always on top.
First the slate is placed on the top bar, then folded down onto the bottom two bars. The slate becomes jammed and remains less susceptible to wind.
If stronger storms are forecast, we recommend removing the slate or securing it with a rubber band available here.
If the wind always blows a little stronger in your area, you can also increase the tension with which the slate is held, as shown in blue below.
Placing the slate on the VH-10
With our VH-10 birdhouses, the slate is placed so that the side with the even hole edges is always on top.
First the slate is placed on the upper bars, then folded down. The slate gets stuck a bit, is relatively insensitive to wind, but can still be removed to fill the birdhouse.
If stronger, hurricane-like storms are forecast, we recommend temporarily securing or removing the slate with a rubber band available here
Types of feed
If a feeding place is only moderately visited. It is almost entirely due to the food offered. We have had the best experiences with unpeeled and peeled sunflower seeds. But tastes are different, even among birds.
Depending on the types of food your birds are used to, there may also be other food mixtures, sometimes depending on the time of year. Sometimes the tits and sparrows pounce on suet balls and ignore the other food on offer, the next day it's exactly the other way around.
Cleaning
Birdhouses with stainless steel or powder-coated surfaces are cleaned with warm water, if necessary with a little detergent. After cleaning, please rinse thoroughly.
If it is extremely dirty, you can also use oven spray as an exception: just don't do it too often, think about the environment and be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions. After it has taken effect, it is best to remove any incrustations with a brush and be sure to rinse thoroughly afterwards with lots and lots of water.
Sure, opinions differ here, but: We exposed our test houses to wind and weather for five years. After cleaning, they were indistinguishable from new birdhouses.
Pattern protection / utility model protection
We have had our designs and articles extensively protected in their entirety and in details. For reasons of protecting our intellectual property rights and copyright protection, we have imitations prosecuted by a specialized Hamburg law firm. So a note to imitators/potential imitators: just leave it alone. It will be expensive...
