Fat ball holder
for sending as a letter or pre-bent
We offer you our slightly different fat ball holders here. Clear design, indestructible made of stainless steel, for suet balls without plastic net.
In very attractive packaging, which can be sent flat as a maxi letter, our mesia dumpling holders are a welcome greeting to bird lovers. Bended into shape in just a few steps and fitted with a fat ball, they can easily be hung on branches and twigs.
If bending the part delivered flat seems too tricky for you (watch the video below), you can alternatively order the suet ball holders pre-bent. Since there is still space in the box, you will also receive a fat ball with the holder.
Homemade fat balls
And here's another recipe if you want to make your own fat balls. It's easier than you thought. But you need the following
Ingredients:
Fat source:
250 g beef tallow or vegetable fat (coconut oil works well)
Dry ingredients:
200 g oat flakes
200 g chopped nuts (e.g. peanuts, walnuts or almonds)
100 g sunflower seeds
50 g wheat flour or wholemeal flour
Additional options:
Raisins, dried fruits or berries
Directions:
Melt fat:
First, melt the suet or vegetable fat in a saucepan over low heat until liquid.
Now you can add the dry ingredients:
Stir the oat flakes, chopped nuts, sunflower seeds and flour into the liquid fat. Mix the ingredients well until a uniform mixture is formed.
If you wish, you can additionally add raisins, dried fruits or berries to make the dumplings even more attractive to birds.
Shapes of dumplings:
Allow the mixture to cool slightly so that it becomes malleable. Then form small dumplings with your hands
Allow to harden:
Allow the formed dumplings to harden in a cool place. You can also let them solidify in the fridge for a few hours or overnight.
Hanging in the garden:
When the dumplings are firm, you can hang them in your garden. To do this, use cords or nets. Hang them on branches or other suitable places where birds can easily access them.
Remember that the ingredients are flexible and you can adjust the mixture as desired. Fat balls are a great way to attract birds and provide them with an additional source of food, especially during the cold winter months.
