Notes on replacement wicks

You are here: OPOSSUM design » spare parts » replacement/complementary parts oil lamps

We offer you two types of replacement wicks: one cheaper with and one without a wick holder.

Threading the wick requires a bit of dexterity: take the wick between your index finger and thumb and twist it slightly at the tip. Hold the twisted end between both fingers. With your other hand, hold the wick holder between your thumb and forefinger so that the wide end is facing you. Now guide the twisted end of the wick to the opening and twist it into the sleeve under pressure. Push ("screw") the wick further into the sleeve while constantly turning it until it sticks out long enough at the other end. Carefully pull the wick through the sleeve until approx. 1-3 millimeters still sticks out at the top.

The exact length depends on the lamp oil used. But 1-3mm is usually sufficient.

Only burn the wick when it is completely saturated. Otherwise, depending on the oil used, the wick may only glow slightly or the glass barrels may fuse.

In this case, please push the wick slightly from below while rotating and cut it off slightly at the top. Sometimes a light rub (drip) with your fingers on the top end of the wick is enough. (Don't forget to wash your hands...)
